The Mayor's Green Plan Task Force:

One of the most serious problems facing our planet is the broad public acceptance of policies, programs and practices that are directly tied to the sustainability of our planet, and the failure of humans to fully commit themselves to environmental preservation and conservation.

Given Town Council’s commitment to undertaking actions that will significantly contribute to the achievement of a healthier environment, Mayor Rick Bonnette has assembled a Mayor’s Green Plan Task Force for the purposes of preparing a “Green Plan” for the Town of Halton Hills. Approved by Council in June 2007, the Task Force consists of a diverse group of individuals that best represents the needs of Halton Hills. Task Force representation includes:

  • Members of Halton Hills Council;
  • Halton Hills staff;
  • Halton Hills Hydro
  • Healthy Options for People & the Environment (HOPE);
  • Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (POWER);
  • Christ the King Secondary School;
  • Town Environmental Advisory Committee;
  • Neilson Dairy;
  • Halton Federation of Agriculture; and
  • Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce.

The Task Force has met on a regular basis to discuss and develop the terms for what will form the Town’s “Green Plan”. It is anticipated that the “Green Plan” will be finalized this November, and will focus on actions that are practical, affordable, reasonable and enforceable/educational.

In an effort to learn from other municipalities, a “Municipal Experts Forum” was held at the Town Hall on September 6th, 2007. For the benefit of the Town’s residents, the Forum was taped by Cogeco Cable and with repeated airings on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, September 12th at 9:00 pm
  • Thursday, September 13th at 1:00 pm
  • Thursday, October 4th at 9:00 pm
  • Friday, October 5th at 1:00 pm

If you missed the Forum on Cogeco contact Damian Szybalski for a copy of the video.

The Green Plan Task Force have also participated in an Ipsos Reid syndicated survey entitled “Municipal Solutions for a Greener Earth”. The results of the survey are anticipated in early October and will be posted at this website location.
