Clean Up Initiatives for 2010
Halton Hills Clean Up Initiatives 2010
Community-Wide Clean Up Day – Saturday April 17th 2010
Once again Halton Hills will get its annual spring cleaning. The Litter Free Halton Hills Task Force announced that Saturday April 17th, 2010 will be the official Community-Wide Clean Up Day. Families, church groups, service clubs and ratepayers organizations will scour the parks, ravines and roadsides of Halton Hills picking up litter and assorted items. All residents are invited to participate. It is not necessary to belong to a group although it is more fun to do this with friends or family. Any group would be pleased to have extra help.
All areas of Halton Hills need to be cleaned up. Everyone is encouraged to think about the public areas in your own neighbourhood or the parks and open spaces that you enjoy. Invite your neighbours to join you at 9am on Saturday morning for an hour of community service. It is a great way for neighbours to catch up after the long winter.
Participants are encouraged to call the town and tell us where you are cleaning up. Collected litter will then be picked up by the Town. Call Brenda at 905 873 2601 ext. 2609.
Free gloves and bags are available from the Town Works Yard at 11620 Trafalgar Road.
Gloves have been provided courtesy of Superior Glove. McDonald’s Restaurants in Georgetown and Acton are also giving away gloves and bags to clean-up participants.
Tim Horton’s is also sponsoring this event by providing t-shirts, gloves and refreshments at our Earth Week Celebrations.
Many thanks to all of our volunteers. You all make a noticeable difference to our town.
HALTON HILLS 22 MINUTE MAKEOVER – THURSDAY APRIL 22, 2010
The 22 Minute Makeover is moving to a new timeslot! In previous years, the 20 Minute Makeover was held on the Friday before Clean-Up Day. In honour of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, it has been shifted to the official Earth Day, April 22nd and renamed the 22 Minute Makeover.
The 22 Minute Makeover is a quick and easy clean up focused on institutions, businesses and especially schools.
In previous years we have had 100% participation by Halton Hills Schools and we hope to continue the tradition. We thank the administration of these schools for making sure that students learn the value of participation and the cost of littering.
Last year we had participation by a variety of businesses throughout the municipality and we are hoping to attract more this year. Several businesses sent all of their employees out for 20 minutes or more. It was amazing to see how much they could collect in a short period of time.
We encourage all participating groups to register with the town and arrange for free gloves and bags. Please call Brenda at 905 873 2601 ext. 2609.
Gloves have generously been donated by Superior Glove of Acton and Tim Horton’s
