    SKATING RULES

    The following rules and regulations have been put into place to provide a pleasurable and safe skating environment for all participants. Protective Helmets are mandatory for all shinny sessions. Helmets are also strongly recommended to be worn by ANYONE attending any of the Town’s Recreational Skating programs.

    Each arena Ice surface has a maximum capacity of person allowed on the ice surface.
    The number of skaters allowed at any time is enforced to provide safe and enjoyable skating opportunities. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

    Skaters are asked to obey the Skate Patrols.

    Skating aids will only be available from the arena during Parent & Tot skating and Family Skating while supply lasts.

    Participants may bring their own approved skating aid for Family Skating to be used in the designated beginner area.

    Adult Shinny
    For men and women 18 years and older. Full hockey equipment, including helmets must be worn. No body contact or rough play is allowed. Game is organized by participants. **Participant limits may be enforced on a first come first serve basis.

    Adult Skating
    Persons 18 years of age and over. No hockey sticks or pucks are allowed.

    Adult Stick & Puck
    Work on puck control and skating drills. Helmets are mandatory. No hockey nets provided. Shooting of the puck is not allowed other than for passing drills.

    Family Skating
    Open to families of all ages. Parent/guardian must be 18 years of age or older and accompany children. Maximum of 4 participants including one adult. Skate aids are available.

    Figure Skating Pick-Up
    For experienced figure skaters with a certified coach. Admission required for all participants, including coaches.

    Home School Shinny
    Full hockey equipment, including helmets must be worn. No body contact or rough play is allowed. Game is organized by participants. *Participant limits may be enforced on a first come first serve basis.

    NEW - Youth Shinny (11-12 yrs)
    Play a fun pick-up game of shinny by dividing players equally based on skill level. Body contact, rough play and slap shots are NOT permitted. Parent/guardian must be 18 years of age or older and must remin in program area if not accompanying youth on the ice. Goalies are permitted. Full protective hockey equipment is required to be worn at all times by participants including CSA approved helmet. Parent/guardian on ice monitoring the activity must wear CSA approved helmet and skates. Adults on ice are not to participate but are to monitor.

    NEW - Youth Shinny (13-14 yrs)
    Play a fun pick-up game of shinny by dividing players equally based on skill level. Body contact, rough play and slap shots are NOT permitted. Parent/guardian must be 18 years of age or older and must remin in program area if not accompanying youth on the ice. Goalies are permitted. Full protective hockey equipment is required to be worn at all times by participants including CSA approved helmet. Parent/guardian on ice monitoring the activity must wear CSA approved helmet and skates. Adults on ice are not to participate but are to monitor.

    Parent & Tot Shinny
    Children under 6 years who are accompanied by an adult can focus on having fun developing hockey skills. Adults and preschoolers are permitted a stick and puck. For children, full hockey equipment including a CSA approved hockey helmet with face mask is mandatory. For adults, helmets are mandatory but full equipment is optional. Adults are not permitted to shoot or raise the puck in a manner that may be dangerous to others.

    Parent & Tot Skating
    Skating for children under 6 years who are accompanied by an adult. Child must wear a helmet. No hockey sticks or pucks allowed. Skate aids are available.

    Public Skating
    Open to all ages.

    Senior Shinny
    55 years and over. Full hockey equipment, including helmets must be worn. No body contact or rough play is allowed. Game is organized by participants. **Participant limits may be enforced on a first come first serve basis.

    Stick & Puck (11-12 yrs)
    For youth 11-12 years of age. Work on puck control and skating drills. Shooting of the puck is not allowed other than for passing drills as there are no nets provided. Ratio of instructor/coach/parent to child is not to exceed 1:2. Full protective hockey equipment is required to be worn at all times by participants. Helmets are mandatory for adults. Body contact, rough play, game play, scrimmages and goaltenders are NOT permitted.

    Stick & Puck (6-8 yrs)
    For children 6-8 years of age. Work on puck control and skating drills. Shooting of the puck is not allowed other than for passing drills as there are no nets provided. Ratio of instructor/coach/parent to child is not to exceed 1:2. Full protective hockey equipment is required to be worn at all times by participants. Helmets are mandatory for adults.
