Can I pay my property taxes using my credit card?

Yes, this can be done on-line only using a third party called Plastiq.

    What is Plastiq?

Plastiq is a service that empowers cardholders to make payments for tuition, taxes, utility bills, and more with their card of choice.

What is the cost of using Plastiq

Plastiq assesses a nominal service fee to make this payment option possible - a percentage of the total amount of the payment. The fee for property tax payments is 2.5% For each transaction, two charges will appear on your credit card statement: 1) the principal amount of the payment, and 2) the service fee.

Why am I being charged a fee?

Plastiq charges a nominal service fee in order to make this option of credit card payment possible. All credit card transactions are completed by behind-the-scenes processors, which assess a fee in order to operate. When merchants accept credit card payments on their own, they pay this fee for each transaction. In instances when merchants do not or cannot accept card on their own, Plastiq makes card payment possible through a service fee that is uniquely lower than different solutions.

If I make a payment online with my credit card through Plastiq, how long does it take for the payment to go through?

Once a payment is submitted, Plastiq charges the card used and channels the transaction to the merchant in the form in which they best receive it. If merchants receive payments electronically, such as your municipality does for property tax payments, then payments made through Plastiq should reach them in 3-4 business days (excluding weekends and holidays), similar to any credit card transaction but can take longer . Payment delivery timing and status updates are made available to members at the time of payment.

Can I still pay in other ways?

Yes. We are simply adding a new option that allows you to make payments with a credit card.
